A public service announcement:
When you want to make something for a cookout and have a recipe that starts with “make some brownies”, and says furthermore that you can use a box mix, and you’re feeling lazy and a little too pregnant to stand in the kitchen measuring flour and baking soda so you get a box mix from Super Target (where you decided to go for the few foodstuffs you need because you heard they had some nice planters this season), but you used the last of the farmers market eggs in the omelet you had for dinner and the only Target eggs that say cage-free look suspicious because they’re from the same farm as the el cheapo factory eggs, and so standing there in Target you decide to just use that egg replacer you have at home, the one that’s worked in lots of cake and cookie recipes in the past, please reconsider. Because you will end up with bubbling brownie sludge that will be covalently bound to your glass baking dish, and you will spend a lot of time salvaging the top layer from this formerly appealing recipe, and while that part will be delicious, it will be too sweet and pretty unmanageable because how the heck do they expect you to mix chocolate chips and peanut butter 1:1 and come out with something that’s not, at best, a sticky mess at room temperature?
