I’ve just hit the mathematical halfway point of this book.

I turned on Cleartype and set my system font to Lucida Sans on my shitty corporate Windows XP work computer yesterday and it’s kind of amazing - I swear that little bit of smoothing makes everything look better, words flow more smoothly, and I think I’m even a little more assertive in my emails and more confident in what I’m working on. Neato.

Sometime last night much of the inital shock, then anger about DFW’s suicide had subsided, and I was left with just sadness. The rest of the denial has finally started draining away too. I think suicide is a really really dumb thing to do, and so when really smart people who are among my favorite writers do it, I just simply don’t understand. At first I was shocked and now I’m just like, “really? suicide? That is so fucking stupid.” Goddammit.
